ARRAY Acquires Dominican Republic’s Oscar Submission “Bantú Mama,” Clarisse Albrecht Stars



Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY Releasing has acquired “Bantú Mama,” the Dominican Republic’s Oscar submission for Finest Worldwide Characteristic Movie. TV actress Clarisse Albrecht makes her characteristic debut because the main function and in addition co-wrote the script with director Ivan Herrera. “Bantú Mama” follows Emma (Albrecht), an Afropean girl who escapes arrest and finds refuge in a harmful pocket of Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic, the place she is taken in by three youngsters. “By becoming their protégée and maternal figure, she experiences an unimaginable change in her destiny,” the synopsis teases.

“This deeply moving and vividly drawn drama, beautifully directed by Ivan Herrera and co-written with producer Clarisse Albrecht, is a bold vision that we’re thrilled to share with audiences,” ARRAY president Tilane Jones shared in an announcement. 

“Bantú Mama” made its world premiere on the 2021 SXSW Movie Fest and gained awards at Durban Worldwide Movie Competition and Quibdó África Movie Competition, amongst others.

Albrecht’s appearing credit embody BBC interval drama “The Long Song,” a miniseries adaptation of Andrea Levy’s novel of the identical title, set on a Nineteenth-century plantation in Jamaica throughout the remaining days of slavery.

Based by DuVernay, whose personal movies embody “Selma” and “13th,”ARRAY Releasing is a story change collective “dedicated to distributing and exhibiting independent films made by Black artists, people of color, and women of all kinds,” per its web site. ARRAY Relasing’s 2022 releases have included “What We Leave Behind,” Iliana Sosa’s documentary tribute to her grandfather, and “Donkeyhead,” Agam Darshi’s household drama a couple of daughter who’s taking care of her Sikh father after he suffers a debilitating stroke.
