Latino Film Institute Names Heads for Youth Cinema Project, LALIFF – The Hollywood Reporter

The Latino Movie Institute has appointed Erika Sabel Flores and Sergio Monserrate to 2 key positions.

Flores has been named government director of the group’s Youth Cinema Challenge, and Monserrate shall be government director of the Los Angeles Latino Worldwide Movie Pageant. The pageant’s twenty second version is ready for Could 31-June 4.

“I am proud that the Latino Film Institute is helping create the next generation of leaders in Hollywood,” LFI chairman and founder Edward James Olmos stated in a press release. “With the growth of our institute, LFI is finally at a place where we can uplift Erika and Sergio, so that they can in turn help us continue to uplift our community within the entertainment industry.”

Flores has labored with the Youth Cinema Challenge for the previous 5 years. As government director, she’ll oversee the movie training program, which works with 14 faculty districts in California to combine filmmaking in English and visible and performing arts curricula, and a newly created alumni program that’s targeted on making a pipeline between the Latino group and the trade.

“This organization has allowed me to do meaningful work that I am very proud of with an incredible team,” stated Flores. “I am very grateful for the trust the board has placed in me and for their leadership and mentorship. I’m very excited for the future and all the work we will do as we continue to build infrastructure and pipelines for Latinos in entertainment.”

Monserrate started working with LALIFF as a volunteer within the early 2000s. Now as government director, he’ll take cost of each the pageant and its LALIFF Inclusion Fellowship, which focuses on Black and Indigenous Latino filmmakers. “I am honored and grateful to the board for this appointment,” he stated. “I’m excited to uphold LFI’s commitment to amplifying Latino excellence in the industry.”
